The UT-ORNL-IACMI collaboration has enabled a melt-spinning line for producing preceramic and high performance polymer fibers. This is a flexible line that can accommodate different polymer slugs that are spun into fibers of few microns up to 120 microns in diameter. For example, silicon carbon fibers can be produced through subsequent processing of the spun fibers. This is a pilot scale line and will be fully operational by Spring 2023.
