ACE workshop : Composite Materials, Product Development and Machine Tools

Goal: To provide experiential learning and training to participants on composite materials, processing, tooling, machine tools and machining as it relates to holistic product development.
Agenda
Day 1:
9-10:30 am Introduction to the ACE program
Introduction to composite materials and handing out assignments to the team, explanation of the assignments
10:30-12:00 Team(s) brainstorm and discuss to determine design boundaries, specifications, dimensions and basic product features (Mentors and student participants)
12:-1:00 Lunch
1:00-5:00 Introduction to CAD to the extent required to engineer the team assignment (product)
Day 2:
9:00-10:30 am Introduction to CAD – tooling/molds
10:30-12:00 am CAD time to produce mold concepts
12:00-1:00 Lunch
1:00 to 5:00 Training on materials selection, design-material-processing
Day 3:
9:00-11:30 am Specific stations related to DoD visit – Teams will be conducting manufacturing, materials preparation, CAD, quality inspection and other activities related to the DoD guests interacting with students
11:30-1:00 pm Working lunch in Mossman, Visitor(s) briefing, posters viewing and more student interactions
1:00-5:00 pm Continue with the assignment depending on which stage the team is at (for e.g. if the router/machine center is tied up with 1 team, the other will do another activity and so on).
Day 4:
9:00-5:00 Manufacturing of molds, parts, trimming various stages
Day 5
9:00-12:00 Quality inspection training
12:00-1:00 Lunch and issue certificates
