Philip Barnett

Assistant Research Professor of Clean Manufacturing

University of Tennessee-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute

    Biography

Dr. Barnett seeks to change the end-of-life and waste paradigms for fiber-reinforced composites by developing low-cost, high-performance recyclable/recycled composites materials with integrated functionality. His current interests are in hybrid/multi-scale reinforced composites, impact protection/crashworthiness, and low energy production of high-performance composites. Dr. Barnett received his PhD from the University of Tennessee, where he developed a novel manufacturing process for high-performance recycled carbon fiber composites. He then served as a National Research Council postdoctoral fellow at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where he studied agile manufacturing of aerospace structural composites. In 2023, Dr. Barnett returned to the University of Tennessee as one of the inaugural hires in the University of Tennessee-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute.
