UT Composites expands into new space

The UT composites operation has expanded into new space (interim) till its new home (Innovation South) will be built by Jan 2024. IACMI-The Composites Institute and UT will co-share space a 11,000 square feet building at 10658 Checkerboard Lane, Knoxville, TN. This facility is off Dutchtown Road, about 2 exits from the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) at ORNL.

The Checkerboard facility will house the IACMI headquarter offices and an excellent high-bay manufacturing space. The facility will house the Automated Tape Placement equipment, a fiber sizing line, McLean Anderson Filament Winder, Autometrix Routing table, processing ovens, freezer(s) and a dedicated space for building and assembling educational kits for the MEEP, ACCP and ACEnet programs and AR/VR training in plastics and composites manufacturing. The latter is dedicated for work force development.

The facility provides extended reach into collaborative projects between UT-ORNL-IACMI-Industry partners and is a natural extension of the ecosystem including work force training and education.

The space will also house/co-locate targeted industry partners. For more information, please contact Dr. Uday Vaidya (uvaidya@utk.edu) or Heather Castleberry, IACMI CCO/CFO (hcastleberry@iacmi.org)
